A guitarist since grade school, McDonald grew up playing in jazz combos, funk bands, and rock groups; but his real passion was production. In the 7th Grade he received a Tascam 4-Track tape recorder, and has immersed himself in the art of production and recording ever since. In 2008 He built a small studio in a garage and began recording local bands and toying around with synthesizers and drum machines. wiZard migrated into electronic music after realizing it was the perfect medium for him to explore his wide array of influences and integrate them into a sound that was truly his.
wiZard has shared the stage with Michal Menert, Gramatik, Big Gigantic, Paper Diamond, D.V.S*, Archnemesis Two Fresh, GriZ, Murph (from STS9), Signal Path, SuperVision, Govinda, Alex B, Emancipator, The Polish Ambassador, Jay Fresh, Bass Science, Adventure Club, a Zeds Dead, and many more.
When that studio shut down in 2013, he threw himself back into performing as wiZard and writing/producing his debut EP, all the while dreaming of ways to get back into the studio, and behind the board, full-time. After much soul-searching, and a few more engineering credits, he decided to make the move to Nashville and explore the opportunities that had begun to present themselves after working on Blackberry Smoke's #1 Record "Holding All the Roses".
After spending a couple of years establishing himself in Nashville, wiz now splits his time between being on the road as a Lighting Director for acts such as Melanie Martinez and Big Baby D.R.A.M, and making lots of noise at Whites Creek Music. in 2017 he partnered up with songwriter Ben Marshal to open a unique studio and writers retreat. Named Whites Creek Music, the studio and retreat are housed in a gorgeous log cabin perched on the top of one of the mountains just outside of town.
He is Avid-Certified in Pro Tools HD, and is extremely proficient in Logic Pro, Ableton Live (and performance rig design), and Maschine.
wiz can program/operate on GrandMA2 and Jands Vista lighting consoles.
